In memoriam: Teacher, author, farmer Charles Dedic dies at 83

FFRF Member Charles Edward Dedic died on Oct. 19 at the age of 83.

He was born Dec. 20, 1935, in Perkins, Mich., on the farm where he lived most of his life. He served on active duty in the Army from 1954 to 1957. After returning from the Army, he attended Northern Michigan University, graduating in 1962. He taught high school English and journalism in Newberry and Escanaba, Mich., for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990. During his entire working career, he also operated a family dairy farm. 

Charles enjoyed writing, hunting, fishing, and playing the card game sheepshead. He self-published eight books, many detailed biographical and historical short stories, mostly nonfiction.

Charles is survived by five children, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Annette (Engman) Dedic and his daughter, Kimberly (Danny) Long.
